Sanding Buddha (Cont.)
The laughing Buddha has been a symbol of hope and happiness since I was child. Whenever I was sad or angry, I would always confide in this 1m tall Laughing Buddha, calling him Gong Gong. This process-based photo installation is a continuation from Sanding Buddha (2018). Each photo represents one minute of sanding the concrete Buddha’s face. Unlike the drastic changes of the Buddha’s features observed in the previous iteration, these 500 portraits of the Buddha, juxtaposed in a grid format, demonstrate the futility of continued sanding after an extended period of time.
