As I Go Home

Singapore, 2024 This photographic series, 'As I Go Home,' emerged from a spontaneous observation during a walk home. I was struck by the shadows that danced on the gravel, which then brought my attention to the source of light, cast by an ordinary, man-made street lamp. The art process involved keen observation and contemplation, as I captured moments where light caressed nature's contours, illuminating details often overlooked. The play of light and shadows served as a catalyst for deeper inquiry, a meditation of my exploration into the concept of one returning home. Drawing from Carl Jung's psychology, 'As I Go Home' delves into the symbolism of light and shadows as archetypes of consciousness. The interplay between clarity and obscurity, warmth and coolness, mirrors the journey of individuation, where the ego seeks integration with the unconscious. This series becomes a visual narrative of the psyche's quest for wholeness, echoing Jung's concept of the 'Self' and the inherent balance between light (consciousness) and shadow (unconsciousness). Each photograph in 'As I Go Home' becomes a mirror, inviting viewers to reflect on their own psychological landscapes and the universal quest for self-discovery. It is an exploration of the layers of meaning embedded in everyday experiences, where the path homeward intertwines with the journey inward.
